Caching at Multiple Layers

Production GraphQL systems can use several cache layers. A client cache reduces repeated requests from the browser or application. An application cache can reduce repeated backend work. A database cache or infrastructure cache can reduce storage latency.

Each layer has different consistency characteristics. Introducing more caches without an invalidation strategy can make debugging difficult, so every cache should have a clearly defined purpose and lifetime.
