The Schema as a Long-Lived Contract

A production GraphQL schema is more than a description of available fields. It is a contract between the API and every client that depends on it.

Once a field is published, removing or changing its meaning can break mobile applications, web applications, partner integrations, background jobs, and other services. Schema design therefore requires thinking about how the API will evolve over months and years rather than only how it solves today's feature.

A good schema exposes domain concepts clearly, uses predictable naming, and avoids leaking temporary implementation details.
